Jerry

Jerry is a married man in his mid-40’s. He has two kids and a job where he feels disposable. Sometimes, Jerry feels embarrassed that his wife makes more money than him. But he is not giving up. He has so many fascinating ideas he would like to get off the ground to change his career. Still, he is afraid to lose his job’s stability and that he is getting too old to change career paths and start something new on his own. He researches how best to get started, but things aren’t as simple as the internet solutions he finds. He feels uncomfortable talking to his friends about this. Even though his wife is supportive, he doesn’t think she fully understands him or knows exactly what he needs. Jerry doesn’t know anyone in his similar situation that he can trust or get advice. He finds himself speaking anonymously to online strangers in groups or chats, but there is no personal connection.

One evening, Jerry sees an ad for Mentor Matchmaker’s service and decides to give it a try. First, Jerry had a welcoming online-interview with Mentor Matchmaker. During the interview, his strengths, and challenges were explored, and he was able to have all of his questions answered. While anticipating being matched, Jerry took the personality-communication test and learned some interesting facts about his personality traits and communication preferences. This was the first time he had taken a test like this. A short time later, Jerry was matched with a mentor who had switched careers late in life. Over time, Jerry’s mentor successfully helped guide him on a path to transition into his own business. Jerry was so relieved that someone trustworthy and experienced was by his side. MONIQUE

Monique is in her 20’s, and she is a veteran. She has already experienced so much for being so young these past years. She returned to civilian-life a few months before the pandemic. While adjusting to her new civilian life, her older sister passed away. These days, she is taking care of her young niece and nephew. Never could she have imagined in a million years her life would have changed so much in so little time. Monique felt so overwhelmed, but she did remember a valuable skill she learned from the armed forces, and that is: use your resources.  A friend recommended Mentor Matchmaker Mentoring Services to her. It’s been a few months now, and her mentor, who herself is a veteran, precisely understands  what Monique is dealing with.      

Monique knows it’s hard, especially during the pandemic, but she does her best for her niece and nephew and learns how to be a mom to them every day. Frequently Asked Questions

How do I meet my mentor?

You can meet face-to-face (while respecting CDC guidelines), if not, use any video meeting platform. Although some communication can be done via text and email. It is crucial to make time for face-to-face (via video conferencing or in-person) at least once a week. The number one reason being facial cues and tones can be missed over texts and emails. The number two reason is that you are building a purposeful relationship, and it is impossible to do so over texts and emails only.

When do I meet my mentor?

We will set a date and time for the initial meeting; after this, you will both decide on the best time.

What information will be shared with my mentor before the match?

Only general information will be shared, such as your work industry (no company name) or area of study,  age bracket, and your goals.  Once you have both agreed to the match, your first name, contact information, along with the time and date of your first meeting (video-conferencing or in-person) will be passed along.

What if I feel the mentor is not a good match for me, can I change my mentor?

Yes, you can. Although we take significant consideration and care in matching you with your mentor, we want you to be happy and feel supported. We will do what we can, within reasons, to match you with a new mentor.

What happens if you cannot find me a new mentor right away?  Will I be charged?

If we are unable to rematch you right away, you will be refunded, or we can freeze payment (if it is a yearly membership) until we find you a new mentor. You will never be charged before you, and your mentor has agreed to the match.

What if I cannot attend the and Guest Speakers’ events?

We will always have a remote-attendance option. Specific details will be available before each event.

What happens if you cannot find me a new mentor right away?  Will I be charged?

As a policy, we need 1-month notice to cancel your mentorship. We will refund you the rest of the unused portion of your membership from the effective cancellation date. Any annual memberships canceled in the first 2 months will be charged as “Monthly” memberships.

Do mentors choose their mentees?

No, mentors do not choose their mentees; only the Mentor Matchmaker team does the magic. Matches are based on communication style goals, challenges, and successes. Mentor matching is NEVER based on ethnicity, income level, religion, or political affiliation.

What is a misconception about mentorship?

Having a mentor will bring you instant results with little work because they have done the job, so all they must do, is show you how to get thereMentors will show you the direction and point out pitfalls, but they can’t do it for you. Being mentored is not instant pudding; it takes work, listening, and being open to new ways of doing things. We are confident that with efforts and guidance, you will reach your goals, just like you wanted.
